Beginning in late 2018, Kamehameha Schools conducted extensive outreach and community engagement activities to gather mana‘o, share and learn about the area, and provide updates about Kapālama Kai.
Opportunities will continue throughout the life of the project with online engagement, stakeholder meetings, community events, and outreach with government entities and Kamehameha Schools ‘ohana.
Findings
Public outreach and community engagement for Kamehameha Schools’ Kapālama Kai Plan began in late 2018 with the team participating in several community events, including the Kalihi Business Association’s Annual Christmas Parade and Pālama Settlement’s Annual Holiday Event and continued with targeted stakeholder outreach.
Outreach activities included a community survey in November 2018 to June 2019, which received 571 responses from the public.
